Hubungan antara Kelimpahan Ikan Karang Famili Chaetodontidae dengan Tutupan Karang Hidup di Teluk Jemeluk (Kabupaten Karangasem) dan Teluk Gilimanuk, (Kabupaten Jembrana), Provinsi Bali

Abstract

Coral fish from the Chaetodontidae (butterfly fish) can indicate healthy reef conditions in a given marine area. Jemeluk and Gilimanuk Bays are regions characterized by high marine biodiversity; however, information regarding the fauna associated with coral reef ecosystems remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the abundance of Chaetodontidae and live coral cover in Jemeluk and Gilimanuk Bay. The Underwater Visual Census (UVC) method was employed to assess the abundance of Chaetodontidae. In contrast, the Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) method was applied for coral data collection, which was placed parallel to the shoreline at depths of 5-7 m.  Pearson correlation was used to determine the relationships of the fish abundance and the living coral coverage. The findings revealed that Jemeluk Bay hosted nine species, whereas Gilimanuk Bay had six species of Chaetodontidae. Jemeluk Bay exhibited live coral cover ranging from 10.76% to 38.99%, with an average of 21.06 ± 15.58%, while Gilimanuk Bay demonstrated live coral cover ranging from 40.33% to 42.14%, with an average of 41.47 ± 0.99%. Correlation analysis indicated a strong correlation between the abundance of Chaetodontidae and live coral cover at both locations, with an r-value of 0.99
