Tourism Suitability Index of Beach Recreation Category and Tourist Perception in Jemeluk Beach, Karangasem Regency, Bali Province

Abstract

Jemeluk Beach is a tourist attraction in Purwakerti Village, Abang District, Karangasem Regency. Jemeluk Beach is a natural coastal water with ecotourism potential. Information regarding the environment's suitability for sustainable tourism development at Jemeluk Beach has never been collected. This study aimed to determine the condition of environmental suitability and tourist perceptions about the condition of tourist attractions at Jemeluk Beach for sustainable tourism development. Data was collected in February-March 2024 using quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. The data analysis methods used were the tourism suitability index and tourist perceptions. Based on the results of the tourism suitability index analysis, the results at stations 1 and 3 were 2.2, and in station 2, it was 2.0, categorize as suitable for the beach recreation category, the tourist perceptions state that the tourist attraction at Jemeluk Beach is still very natural with a very attractive beauty charm natural landscape and sunrise. Jemeluk Beach is supported by other service facilities such as lodging, restaurants, snorkeling, and diving. The strategy for developing the tourist area is promoting through social media and improving facilities and infrastructure at Jemeluk Beach.
