CHARACTERISTICS OF CHEMOTHERAPY SIDE EFFECTS IN GYNECOLOGIC CANCER PATIENTS AT RSUP PROF. DR. I.G.N.G. NGOERAH

Introduction: Gynecological cancer is one of the factors causing the high mortality rate of Indonesian women. Gynecological cancer is a group of malignancies that attack the female reproductive organs. The management of gynecological cancer is chemotherapy. The use of chemotherapy certainly has side effects for gynecological cancer patients.
Method: This study used a descriptive cross-sectional design method. Data were obtained from secondary data from medical records of gynecological cancer chemotherapy patients at Prof. dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Hospital, as many as 96 samples that met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using a frequency distribution table.
Results: Cervical cancer was found with the highest number of cases (50%), the most stage was stage III (46.9%), and the use of a combination of paclitaxel and carboplatin as the most chemotherapy regimen (88.5%). The side effects of chemotherapy experienced by patients were nausea (91.7%), anemia (83.3%), thrombocytopenia (69.8%), leukopenia (62.5%), diarrhea (53.1%), and vomiting (45.8%).
Discussion: Gynecological cancer that is commonly experienced by patients is stage III cervical cancer. The combination of paclitaxel and carboplatin is the main regimen for gynecological cancer chemotherapy. The side effects of chemotherapy experienced by patients are nausea, anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, diarrhea, and vomiting.
Conclusion: The majority of patients come with stage III cervical cancer cases who undergo chemotherapy with a combination of paclitaxel and carboplatin. The side effects of chemotherapy experienced by patients are nausea, anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, diarrhea, and vomiting. Effective treatment and side effect management are needed to improve the quality of life of patients.
