Abstract

Introduction: Menstruation is a biological event experienced by woman that is currently or already going through puberty. One of the premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is pain in the lower abdomen, commonly referred to as dysmenorrhea.

Method: This quantitative research using a cross-sectional study approach with analytical study design of 105 female students is started on January–October 2024. Data collecting is done through Google Forms containing numeric rating scale (NRS), International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and 24-hour dietary recall (24HR). The data collected is processed using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) ver. 26 by a Chi-Square test.

Result: The results of the Chi-Square test of physical activity, body mass index (BMI), protein and fat intake on the degree of primary dysmenorrhea complaints in undergraduate Medical Study Program students classes of 2021, 2022, and 2023, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University indicate p-values of 0.450; 0.628; 0.947; and 0.004, respectively.

Discussion: Primary dysmenorrhea is a multifactorial condition, meaning its occurrence is influenced by various factors. Therefore, the degree of primary dysmenorrhea is not only determined by physical activity, body mass index (BMI), as well as nutritional intake, but also other internal factors, and external factors.

Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the fats intake, but no significant relationship between physical activity, body mass index (BMI), and proteins intake on the degree of primary dysmenorrhea complaints in undergraduate Medical Study Program students classes of 2021, 2022, and 2023, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.
