Plagiarism Policy
Jurnal BETA (Biosystem and Agricultural Engineering) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. Any form of plagiarism is considered a serious violation of scientific ethics.
1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of presenting another person’s work, ideas, processes, results, or words as one’s own without proper acknowledgment. Types of plagiarism include, but are not limited to:
- Copying text, images, tables, or data from other sources without citation.
- Paraphrasing substantial parts of another work without acknowledgment.
- Claiming results or ideas of others as one’s own.
- Self-plagiarism: republishing significant portions of the author’s previously published work without citation or justification.
2. Plagiarism Detection
All submitted manuscripts will be screened using plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate, or similar tools). Similarity reports will be reviewed by the editorial board before making an editorial decision.
3. Acceptable Similarity Threshold
The following guideline applies:
- A similarity index of less than 20% (excluding references and properly cited quotations) is generally acceptable.
- Manuscripts exceeding this threshold may be returned for revision or rejected, depending on the extent of plagiarism.
4. Actions in Case of Plagiarism
- Before publication: The manuscript will be rejected immediately.
- After publication: The article may be retracted, and a retraction notice will be published in the journal and reported to indexing databases.
- Authors found guilty of plagiarism may be blacklisted from future submissions to Jurnal BETA.
- The authors’ affiliated institutions may be informed of the case.
5. Authors’ Responsibility
- Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscript is original and has not been substantially published elsewhere.
- All sources must be properly acknowledged and cited.
- Authors must obtain permission for the use of copyrighted material owned by third parties.
6. Editorial Responsibility
Editors and reviewers are responsible for reporting potential plagiarism. The editorial board will handle plagiarism cases by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.
7. Case Handling Procedure
- Initial review of the similarity report by the editor.
- Clarification is requested from the author if plagiarism is suspected.
- Final decision may include revision, rejection, or retraction of the article depending on the evidence.
