Abstract

Distribution of agricultural products through land transportation often causes vibrations that have the potential to reduce product quality, especially for perishable commodities such potatoes. Efforts to evaluate the impact of these vibrations were carried out through the use of a vibrating table as a simulation tool. This study aims to determine the level of potato damage at a vibration frequency of 2.2 Hz. The vibrating table was designed using an angle iron frame with a v-belt pulley transmission systemthat allows for variations in vibration speed and frequency. Four pulley combinations were tested in stages, namely A (70 mm; 374 rpm), B (200 mm; 130.89 rpm), C (70 mm; 374 rpm), and D (300 mm; 87.27 rpm). The test was carried out by placing a carton 7 kg of seed potatoes with a total of 126 pieces on the vibrating table and it with varying times of 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours. The parameters observed included the physical condition of the after the test. The results show that using a vibration frequencyof 2.2 Hz, namely the condition of the that were given vibration for 1 hour only shifted 10 pieces and there was no damage, vibration for 2 hours only 20 pieces shifted and there was no damage, and for 3 hours 28 potatoes shifted and 2 experienced physical damage such as bruising. The conclusion is that using a frequency of 2.2 Hz there were 2 potatoes bruising damage, the percentage of potato damage was 1.59%
