Abstract

This research addresses the limitations of sun drying paddy, which requires long time and large space. The study aims to test a designed rotary dryer. The research method was experimental, including design approach, structural design, functional design, and performance testing. The results showed that the constructed rotary dryer was able to dry 20 kg of paddy from an initial moisture content of 18% to 14.27–14.73% within 5 hours, with a drying rate of 0.65–0.75% per hour. The biomass energy required for drying was 22,680–23,040 cal, and 1 kg of rice husk could dry 2.5 kg of paddy.
