Publication Ethics
Jurnal BETA (Biosistem dan Teknik Pertanian) is a peer-reviewed journal committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and preventing any form of publication malpractice. The following statements are based on the ethical codes of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All parties involved in the act of publishing (editors, reviewers, authors, and the publisher) must agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior.
1. Duties of Editors
-
Publication Decisions: Editors are responsible for deciding which manuscripts will be published based on academic merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the scope of the journal.
-
Fair Play: Editors evaluate manuscripts without regard to the authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy.
-
Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, or other editorial advisers.
-
Conflict of Interest: Editors must not use unpublished materials disclosed in submitted manuscripts for their own research without written consent from the author(s).
2. Duties of Reviewers
-
Contribution to Editorial Decision: Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and may also help authors improve their manuscripts.
-
Promptness: Any invited reviewer who feels unqualified to review or unable to provide a timely review should notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.
-
Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.
-
Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Comments should be supported with clear arguments.
-
Acknowledgement of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation.
-
Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.
3. Duties of Authors
-
Reporting Standards: Authors must present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior.
-
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works. If the authors have used the work and/or words of others, proper citation must be provided.
-
Multiple or Redundant Publication: Authors should not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal.
-
Acknowledgement of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given.
-
Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors.
-
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.
-
Fundamental Errors in Published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate to retract or correct the paper.
4. Duties of the Publisher
-
Integrity of the Record: The publisher is committed to ensuring that advertising, reprint, or other commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions.
-
Support of Ethical Practices: The publisher works closely with the editors to provide guidance on ethical matters and publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies when needed.
