Publication Ethics & Malpractice Statement
Publication Ethics & Malpractice Statement
Journals are initial evidence of how excellent and impactful research results are for the authors and the institutions that support them. This process also shows how science is applied. Indonesian Journal Of Small-Scale Farming is a journal that goes through a rigorous peer review process and is committed to ensuring the highest ethical standards for publication. All parties involved in the publishing process (editors, authors, reviewers, and publishers) must agree to the Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement (PEMS) standards based on COPE's Committee on Publication Ethics guidelines.
We are committed to publishing original articles that benefit the academic community in the best way and to the highest standards. We want our reviewers and authors to adhere to the same standards. Honesty, authenticity, and fair treatment of authors, as well as fairness, objectivity, and confidentiality of editors and reviewers, are essential things that help us achieve our goals.
Duties of the Publisher
The publisher of the Indonesian Journal of Small-Scale Farming has responsibility for:
- Guardianship of the scholarly record :
Publishers are responsible for maintaining the integrity and authenticity of scientific records published in their journals. This means ensuring that published articles are the result of legitimate research and are not tainted by practices such as plagiarism or data abandonment.
- Safeguard editorial independence:
Publishers must ensure that journal editors have complete autonomy in making editorial decisions, including which articles to publish. This is important to ensure the editorial process is carried out fairly and objectively.
- Provide editors with technical, procedural, and legal support:
Publishers must support journal editors in technical, procedural, and legal matters. This includes providing access to the publishing platform, assisting with technical issues, providing guidance on editorial procedures, and providing legal assistance if necessary.
- Educate researchers on publishing ethics :
Publishers are responsible for providing education and guidance to researchers about ethical practices in scientific publishing. This could involve providing resources on writing ethics, plagiarism, conflicts of interest, and academic integrity principles.
Duties of Editor
The Editor of the Indonesian Journal of Small-Scale Farming has responsibility for:
- Publication Decisions :
The editor reserves the right to decide whether an article will be published based on its quality, relevance, and compliance with journal standards. Editors may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and limited by then-current legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.
- Review of Manuscripts :
The editor reviews manuscripts submitted for publication consideration, determining whether they meet the journal's standards. Editors should explain their peer review process in the information for authors and indicate the journal's peer-reviewed sections. Editors should use appropriate peer reviewers for manuscripts being considered for publication by selecting those with sufficient expertise and avoiding conflicts of interest.
- Ensuring a fair and unbiased double-blind peer review :
Editors must ensure the peer review process is carried out fairly and without bias. The editor must ensure that every manuscript received by the journal is reviewed for its intellectual content without regard to the sex, gender, race, religion, nationality, etc. of the authors. In double-blind peer review, the identities of the author and peer reviewer are hidden from each other to avoid bias.
- Ensuring that author’s and peer reviewer’s identities are protected:
Editors must ensure that information about manuscripts submitted by authors remains confidential. Editors should critically assess any potential breaches of data protection and author confidentiality. This includes requiring proper consent, sufficient information for the research presented, and approval for publication if necessary.
- Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest :
Editors may not use unpublished journal material in manuscripts submitted for their research without written approval from the journal concerned.
Duties of Authors
All authors who will submit their journals to the Indonesian Journal of Small-Scale Farming must follow the following rules:
- Reporting Standards
Authors should explain clearly what they found from their research and why it is essential. Researchers must be honest in presenting the results of their research without lying or manipulating the data. The manuscript must provide sufficiently detailed information and references so that others can try the same research again.
- Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that the work they create is entirely original. Manuscripts may not be submitted simultaneously to multiple publications unless the editor has agreed to simultaneous publication. If the author edits work that has already been published, it must be included in the text. The words or sentences quoted must contain clear quotations and comply with the journal template.
- Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publications
Authors may not submit their manuscripts to two journals simultaneously. It is also hoped that authors do not submit manuscripts already published in different journals. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously is unethical and unacceptable publishing behavior.
- Acknowledgment of Sources
Authors should acknowledge all data sources used in the research and cite publications that have influenced the nature of the work reported. Proper recognition of the work of others should always be given.
- Authorship of the Paper
Authorship of the Paper must accurately reflect the individual's contribution to the work. Authors should be limited to those who have contributed significantly to the design, conduct, or interpretation of the reported study. Others who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. The author also ensures that all authors have seen and approved the submitted version of the manuscript as well as the inclusion of their names as co-authors.
- Fundamental Errors in Published Works
If the author finds errors or inaccuracies in the manuscript that has been submitted, the author must immediately notify the journal editor or publisher and work together with the editor to retract or correct the manuscript.
If an Error Occurs
The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board of the Indonesian Journal of Small-Scale Farming are ready to receive improvements, corrections, and meaningful input. If there is an error from the author, we will issue a correction and notify the author to correct the manuscript. We will issue a correction statement if the error is in the journal. Retraction is only performed for highly problematic articles, whose findings cannot be trusted. We are always open to admitting and correcting mistakes. If readers find errors in our articles, we encourage them to let us know directly so we can fix them quickly.
