Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice or Microsoft Word file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines and Publication Template.

Author Guidelines

Manuscripts submitted for publication must be scientifically sound, clearly written, and comply with the following guidelines:

1. Manuscript Categories

  • Original Research Articles: Empirical studies with clear objectives, methodologies, results, and conclusions.

  • Review Articles or Literature Reviews: Comprehensive and critical assessments of specific topics with novel, testable insights.

  • Case Studies: Well-documented and analytically rich reports of unique biological phenomena or applications.

2. Language

  • Manuscripts may be written in English or Bahasa Indonesia.

  • English manuscripts must use formal scientific language and follow international grammar conventions.

3. Manuscript Structure

Each manuscript must include the following sections (with appropriate headings):

  • Title

    • The title should be relatively concise yet informative. For literature reviews, the phrase “A Literature Review” should be added at the end of the title. Titles must be provided in both Indonesian and English.
  • Author(s) Name(s) and Affiliation(s)

    • The full name of each author should be written without academic titles. The complete institutional affiliation, including department, organization, or institution, must be clearly stated.

      The corresponding author must be indicated with an asterisk (*) and must include a valid email address. If the authors are affiliated with different institutions, each affiliation must be clearly listed and indicated using superscript numbers following each author’s name.

  • Abstract and Keywords 

  • Introduction

  • Materials and Methods

  • Results

  • Discussion

  • Conclusion

  • Acknowledgment(s) (if any)

  • References

4. Formatting

  • File format: Open Office or Microsoft Word (.docx)

  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12 pt

  • Line spacing: Single

  • Margins: 1.5 cm for top and bottom; 0.6 for left and right

  • Page numbers: Bottom right

  • Foreign terms should be written in italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses)

  • Chapter titles, subheadings, and sub-subheadings should be aligned to the left margin without a period, written in bold; chapter titles use all capital letters, subheadings use title case, and sub-subheadings use sentence case with only the first word capitalized.
  • Citations should follow the author-date system, such as Jansman (1993) or Wina et al. (2000) at the beginning of a sentence, and (Wina et al., 2000) at the end.

5. Abstract and Keywords

  • The abstract should consist of a maximum of 250 words and concisely and clearly state the objectives, methods, results, and significance of the study. The abstract must be written in both Indonesian and English, and typed with single line spacing..

  • Keywords (3–6 words) should reflect core concepts and be listed alphabetically. Keywords should be listed below each of the Indonesian and English abstract

6. Tables and Figures

  • All tables and figures must be clearly labeled, numbered sequentially (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1), and accompanied by descriptive captions.

  • Figures must be of high quality (minimum 300 dpi) and embedded within the text near their first citation, rather than at the end.

7. References

  • Use APA style.

  • Include DOI links when available.

  • Examples:

    • Journal article: Visciano, P., Schirone, M., & Paparella, A. (2020). Foods, 9(12), 1795. https://doi.org/10.3390/foods9121795

    • Book: Gopal, P. K. (2022). Probiotic Lactic Acid Bacteria: An Overview. In Encyclopedia of Dairy Sciences. Elsevier.

8. Ethics and Originality

  • Submissions must be original and not previously published or under review elsewhere.

  • Authors must ensure ethical treatment of biological materials and cite all relevant sources appropriately.

9. Peer Review

All manuscripts are subject to double-blind peer review. Decisions will be based on:

  • Scientific quality

  • Originality

  • Clarity and coherence

  • Compliance with submission guidelines

10. Open Access Policy

Metamorfosa Journal of Biological Sciences is an open access journal. All articles are freely accessible to the public, ensuring global dissemination and accessibility of the authors’ work. Licence Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License / CC BY 4.0

11. Submission

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via the official journal website.
